Running half a block
to catch the ice cream truck that fills the street with la lambada every afternoon. Realizing that I had forgotten the Spanish word for pickle. And being reminded of just how at home I am when this created a legitimate dilemma. San Antonio, te sigo queriendo.

“Sometimes it’s a form of love just to talk to somebody that you have nothing in common with and still be fascinated by their presence.”

“Life is a question of nerves, and fibres, and slowly built-up cells in which thought hides itself and passion has its dreams. You may fancy yourself safe and think yourself strong. But a chance tone of colour in a room or a morning sky, a particular perfume that you had once loved and that brings subtle memories with it, a line from a forgotten poem that you had come across again, a cadence from a piece of music that you had ceased to play… I tell you, that it is on things like these that our lives depend.”
—Oscar Wilde, The Picture of Dorian Gray

“People get scared enough, they’ll pick a team. But be it for Buddha, or Krishna, or for Christ, I believe God is that place between belief, and what you name it. I believe holy is what you do when there is nothing between your actions, and the truth. The truth is, I’m afraid to draw more black lines around me. I’m not always pale in the middle. I come in too many flavors for one, fucking, spoon. I am never one thing or the other. At night, I am everything I fear. Tears, and sorrows, and black windows, muffled screams. In the morning, I am all I want to be. Rain and laughter, bare footprints and invisible seams, always without breath, or definition. I claim every single dawn, for yesterday is simply what I was, and tomorrow, even that will be gone.”
